چکیده

BackgroundPostoperative pericardial adhesion formation is a prominent cause of morbidity and death in cardiovascular surgery, but there still no ideal prevention method, especially redo cases. This study investigated novel antiadhesion trilaminar polymeric film compared with the Gore PRECLUDE Pericardial Membrane (W. L. & Associates, Flagstaff, AZ) negative control.MethodsOur membrane composed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). An established rabbit model was used to test property membrane. After sternotomy, portion pericardium resected epicardium abraded. Rabbits (n = 24) were randomly assigned 3 groups: control group, or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE); ePTFE group (PVA-CMC group). Evaluation performed by resternotomy 4 weeks after operation.ResultsThe degree tissue surrounding heart PVA-CMC significantly less than (P < .01) .05) groups. The inflammation score lower that fibrosis groups.ConclusionsThe effectively reduced postoperative adhesions. placement at time sternal closure provides combination minimize extent severity adhesions while providing physical barrier between sternum cardiac structures. Postoperative control. Our operation.

Postoperative Pericardial Adhesion Prevention Using Collagen Membrane in Pigs: A Pilot Study

OBJECTIVE The operating procedure of a resternotomy in open-heart surgery is a complicated procedure with potentially problematic outcomes partly due to potential adhesions in the pericardial cavity and retrosternal space. Use of a collagen membrane has shown encouraging results in adhesion prevention in several regions of the body. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the u...

A novel method to reduce pericardial adhesion: a combination technique with hyaluronic acid biocompatible membrane.

OBJECTIVE This study was to evaluate the efficacy of the hyaluronic acid (HA) bioabsorbable membrane combined use with both expanded-polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) and autologous pericardium for preventing postoperative pericardial adhesions. METHODS The HA bioresorbable surgical membrane (Seprafilm, Genzyme, Cambridge, Mass) was used with either ePTFE or autologous pericardium in an experim...

Methylene Blue Prevents Post-Surgical Adhesion Formation in the Rabbit

Peritoneal adhesions are challenging in abdominal surgery. In spite of different kinds of treatments still no definitive and effective treatment is suggested. To determine the prevention effects of intraperitoneal (ip) methylene blue in post surgical adhesion formation 44 rabbits were randomly divided in two groups of equal number. Group I received an intra peritoneal injection of a 1% suspensi...

Biomimetic sheath membrane via electrospinning for antiadhesion of repaired tendon.

The hierarchical architecture and complex biologic functions of native sheath make its biomimetic substitute a daunting challenge. In this study, a biomimetic bilayer sheath membrane consisting of hyaluronic acid-loaded poly(ε-caprolactone) (HA/PCL) fibrous membrane as the inner layer and PCL fibrous membrane as the outer layer was fabricated by a combination of sequential and microgel electros...

Effect of melatonin in the prevention of postoperative pericardial adhesion formation.

To evaluate the efficacy of melatonin in preventing postoperative pericardial adhesions, 12 single breed dogs were randomized equally into experimental (melatonin) and control groups. After ketamine anesthesia, a vertical midsternal incision was done and the parietal pericardium of the inferior site of the heart was opened vertically. To promote adhesion formation, abrasions were created on bot...
